Open Secrets Profile

I am a political analyst, economist and management consultant from Chicago, Illinois. I have supported and voted for Green candidates at all levels of government for over a decade. I hold a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Chicago, and have completed some doctoral study in Public Administration at Illinois.

I also have a record of taking on very tough, very high-visibility tasks. Until very recently I served as the Associate Director for Issue Councils at the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, answering directly to the Chamber's VP of Membership and Marketing. There, I sought to moderate and stimulate discussion between CEOs and similar-level officials, representing the different factions in the ongoing debate over covering the Uninsured. I also served as the lead technical and economic advisor to the Chamber's Healthcare Council.

Prior to that, I was on a temporary assignment to FEMA Headquarters in Washington, during the horrific 2005 Hurricane Season. There I ran the Information Management Center for FEMA's Response and Recovery Division, advising officials up to Cabinet level.

I have also served as a Research Assistant at UIC, as a Research Data Collection Supervisor for the National Opinion Research Center, and as a Policy Analyst and Consultant with the Government Finance Officers Association.

Till now I have been happy to live and work behind the scenes of politics, but recent events have compelled me to play a more active role.

This election period is a particularly crucial one. Obviously, we will have to undo eight years of the worst mischief ever inflicted upon America by a President. But this is far from the end of it. An end to the global oil supply - what experts call "Peak Oil" - is looming. If unchecked, its impact will devastate all manufacturing, transportation, agriculture and other economic activity. The scope and depth of human suffering that will result, will be unlike anything we have ever seen on Planet Earth.

We can minimize that suffering if we act now. We must plan a transition to a post-oil planet, featuring smaller, community-based economies using only renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and human power. No other candidate, to the best of my knowledge, is actively designing such a program. I do not have all the answers, but I do have a plan to get us started and well on the right track.

For the above reasons, this candidacy will be a departure from those we have fought in the past. We do not have time to waste, complaining about the injustices of the political process, glaring though they are. We have to move past that and campaign to win. There is simply too much at stake to do otherwise.

With the urgency of our message, with a command to take action ("If you have to, write it in!"), and with your support and dedication, we will make America sit up and take notice. Over the next few weeks, I will be filling in my program details, using my interim campaign website as well as conventional communications channels. I look forward to hearing your feedback, and I sincerely hope I can count on your support.

Respectfully, and with Best Wishes, Alan
