NY Gov. Spitzer to resign this morning, expected at 10:30am CST

Sources tell several media outlets that NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer will resign this morning:
Gov. Eliot Spitzer, reeling from revelations that he had been a client of a prostitution ring, will resign today, some of his staff members said they have been told. Mr. Spitzer is scheduled to speak today at 11:30 a.m. at his Manhattan office, a top aide said.

Lt. Gov. David A. Paterson would then be sworn in to replace him in Albany.

It is believe that Spitzer will announce today, with the resignation becoming effective on Monday. Lt. Gov. Paterson would then be sworn in.

UPDATE: 10:15am
Gov. Spitzer is on his way to his midtown office. And, as to be expected, the path of his SUV is being followed by media helicopters above. This looks like OJ Simpson redux. No word on whether Al Cowlings is driving the car.

Reports say that Gov. Spitzer has retained attorney Ted Wells to represent him. You may remember wells from his role defending former Chief-of-Staff to VP Dick Cheney, Scooter Libby.

Eliot Spitzer has resigned as the governor of New York. Resignation will be effective on Monday, March 17th, per the request of Lt. Gov. David Paterson.
