Brent Hassert was born in Romeoville, IL on October 29, 1952. He's a lifelong resident of the district and still resides in Romeoville near his family of two sons and two grandchildren, who are the 6th generation of Hassert's to reside in the 85th District.

He graduated from Lockport West High School and continued his education at Joliet Junior College where he studied ornamental horticulture degree. He began his political career by being elected to the Will County Board. He served as the Will County Board Member from 1986-1990.

In those four years, Brent ascended through the ranks to become the Executive Pro-Tem of the Will County Board. In addition to being the Executive Pro-Tem, other positions Brent had while on the board include:


*Chairman, Executive Committee
*Chairman, Public Works Committee
*Chairman, Environmental, Natural Resource Committee
*Will County Forest Preserve Commissioner
*Vice Chairman, Judicial Committee
*Member, Health & Human Services Committee
*Member, Legislative Ethics Commission

During his term as a Will County Board Member, Brent was responsible for developing a solid waste-recycling program in Will County, and he was one of 25 elected officials chosen nationally to serve on a panel in Washington D.C. for the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.

In 1992, Brent felt the desire to run for State Representative. He was elected and has served the General Assembly for the past 14 years. Currently, Brent is the Deputy Republican Leader for the House of Representatives. In that capacity, Brent deliberates all major negotiations that happen in the House. In addition, Brent serves on the following committees: Executive, Gaming, Public Utilities, Rules and Mass Transit.

In addition, Brent is co-chairman of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) which promulgates all rules for legislation. During the past 14 years, Brent has been fortunate to serve on many different committees that have helped broaden his understand of Springfield, his current committees include:


*Executive
*Labor
*Revenue and Rules
*Ethics
*Gaming
*Joint Committee on Administrative Rules
