After being involved in the community for years and developing many wonderful relationships, a number of my fellow residents have asked me to run for a seat in the State House. After careful consideration and with the support of my wife Marita, I have decided to accept the challenge.
It is time to take action to ensure the residents of northern Lake County they are receiving their fair share of state funding for roads, infrastructure and incentives that will retain and draw non-service sector manufacturing and commercial jobs to northern Lake County.
When elected, I will represent all the people in the 61st District. I will be your voice in the House and make your issues heard. As a businessman with over 30 years of experience, I will apply good business practices, look for compromise and drive toward consensus on difficult issues. Over the past few days voters have expressed their concerns; concerns that I share. Since I am not a career politician I will look at the issues facing our state with fresh eyes and call upon my experience and training to develop unique solutions. Early areas of concern are:
- How new big-box developments affect our downtown shopping areas by drawing residents away from local businesses. I will work with local government officials and direct them toward existing state resources they can utilize to develop and implement plans that will allow their businesses to survive and thrive in this new commercial environment.
- How the loss of manufacturing and non-service commercial jobs to surrounding states should be addressed. Our greatest opportunity to curb the rise in property taxes is to save and grow our manufacturing/industrial base. Our neighbor to the north is offering lucrative incentives to Illinois and Lake County manufacturers to relocate to their state. We must develop plans and programs that will keep those jobs in Lake County and attract new knowledge-based, global businesses to our area.
- Affordable healthcare is a problem that faces our nation as well as our county. I will investigate scenarios and support legislation that will allow local small businesses to provided healthcare benefits comparable in cost and coverage to those offered by larger businesses.
I have been politically active since college, am a member of the Lions Club, a Precinct Committeeman in Antioch, and an active businessman in Antioch. My wife and I now feel it is the time to make the next step and offer myself as a servant in the public arena. I am hopeful that I can bring common sense ideas straight from the people to the Illinois House of Representatives.
