Washington has worked in construction, law enforcement and as a legislative aide for 5 years in the early 80s. He has sponsored or co-sponsored sixty (60) bills. One of the most noted pieces of legislation is House Bill 0277 which is also known as the “Little David Bill”. It is the State version of a regional bill that requires banks to be fair in their lending practices. Some of the other legislation includes a bill that would give prescription drug discount benefits to elderly senior citizens. Another bill will move the age limit where youth can be tried as an adult from 17 to 18. Yet another bill that Washington is co-sponsoring will strengthen legislation regarding consumer fraud against the elderly. Washington has been assigned to several committees, namely: Consumer Protection Committee, Appropriations for Public Safety, Appropriations for Human Services, State Government Committee, and the Mental Health and Disabilities Committee. Illinois 60th District State Representative Eddie Washington was named The Year 2003 Most Influential African American of Lake County. Washington, a community activist, holds the distinction of being elected as the first African American representative to serve from Lake County in the state legislature. -Eddie Washington is married and has seven children.
